About
A value-first buying guide for people who would rather have 90% of the result for 40% of the price - and who want to be told when the cheap option is not good enough.

Most best-of lists are written as though money is not a constraint. They open with the $349 flagship, spend eight paragraphs on it, and then bolt a budget pick onto the end as an afterthought - usually a product nobody on the team looked at closely.
Penny & Pick inverts that. The price ceiling comes first and the product comes second. Every page here starts from a number a real person has decided to spend - $50, $100, $200 or $500 - and asks what the best thing you can buy under it actually is. Sometimes the answer is genuinely excellent and within a few percent of the flagship. Sometimes the honest answer is that nothing at this price is worth owning, and we say that too, because a recommendation you regret costs us more than a click is worth.
That focus is the whole editorial position. We are not trying to be the most comprehensive buying guide on the internet. We are trying to be the most useful one for the person who has a specific budget and a specific need.
Brijon M. is the hands-on owner behind MadGrey LLC, the company that publishes Penny & Pick. He started the site for one reason: most "best of" lists are written for people with unlimited budgets. Penny & Pick is for everyone else - the reader who wants about 90% of the result for about 40% of the price, and who wants to be told honestly when the cheap option isn't good enough.
There is no anonymous content team here and no filler published under an invented name. Every page carries the same byline because one person is accountable for it. If something on this site is wrong, there is a single person to tell - and the contact page goes straight to him.
We are equally clear about what the byline does not claim. Penny & Pick does not run a test lab. We do not have a sound-measurement rig, a decibel booth or a wear-test program, and we have not personally owned every product on this site. Claiming otherwise would be the easiest thing in the world to write and the easiest thing in the world to disprove, so we do not write it.
Our method is research you can check rather than testing you have to take on faith. For every pick we read the full specification against the price, read what long-term owners report after six to twelve months, compare the product against the tier above and below it, and then name the specific tradeoff you are accepting by buying it.
That last part is the non-negotiable one. Every single pick on this site carries a stated tradeoff - the thing you give up at this price - and no pick ships without one. A roundup where all five products sound great is a roundup that has not done its job.
The full method, including how a product gets disqualified and why we sometimes link you to a cheaper tier than the one you landed on, is written out on how we pick. The rules that govern what commission can and cannot change are on the editorial policy page.
Penny & Pick is published by MadGrey LLC, an independent company that owns and operates this site. MadGrey LLC is not a retailer, not a manufacturer and not owned by either, which means no brand on this site is a corporate sibling and no pick is a favor to a parent company.
You can find the publisher at madgreyllc.com.
Penny & Pick is reader-supported and free to read. When a link on this site takes you to a retailer and you buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
Commission rates vary by product category, which creates an obvious temptation - and an obvious rule. The order of our picks is set before anyone looks at what a product pays, and a higher-paying product never moves up the list. Where a cheaper product that pays us less is the better buy, the cheaper product wins the slot. The full disclosure is on the affiliate disclosure page.
We also do not publish prices we cannot verify. Rather than print a number that was true last quarter, every buy button on this site reads Check price on Amazon and sends you to the live retailer page. It is less slick than a hard number and it is never wrong.

No, and we never claim to. Penny & Pick is a research-led site: we read the specification against the price, read long-term owner reports, and name the tradeoff on every pick. We do not run a test lab, so we do not write that we tested anything.
Penny & Pick is owned and published by MadGrey LLC. It is not owned by a retailer or a manufacturer, and no brand covered on the site has any stake in it.
No. There is no paid placement, no sponsored pick and no pay-for-review on this site. A brand cannot buy a slot, change its position, or have a stated tradeoff removed.
