Best Women's Watches Under $100 (October 2026)

The budget women's watch market is full of fashion-brand quartz at inflated prices. These five are the ones built properly.

The short answer

The Casio and Seiko compact quartz models are the best buys under $100: properly sized cases, steel rather than plated construction, and movements that keep perfect time for years. Case size and strap quality matter far more here than any movement specification.

Disclosure: we earn commission on qualifying purchases made through the links below, at no extra cost to you. It never changes the order of our picks - here is how that works.

The problem with this category

More than any other watch segment, the budget women's market is dominated by fashion brands licensing their name onto generic quartz movements in plated cases. The price reflects the name on the dial rather than anything about the watch, and a $150 fashion watch frequently contains the same movement as a $35 one.

That is not an argument against buying one - if you love how it looks, that is a legitimate reason. It is an argument for knowing what you are paying for, because the same money spent on a watch brand rather than a fashion brand buys a measurably better object.

The picks below are chosen on construction: steel rather than plated base metal, a crystal that will not scratch immediately, and a bracelet or strap that is not the first thing to fail.

What to check

Case size. This matters more than any other specification because a watch that is the wrong size is a watch you stop wearing. 26-34mm suits most wrists in this category; larger is a style choice rather than a default. Check lug-to-lug distance rather than diameter.

Case material. 316L stainless steel resists corrosion and keeps its finish. Plated base metal wears through at the edges within a year or two of daily wear, and it cannot be refinished.

Crystal. Mineral is the norm at this price; sapphire appears at the top of the tier and is worth the step if the watch is for daily wear.

Strap attachment. Standard spring bars and a common lug width mean you can replace a strap for $15. Proprietary attachments mean you cannot, and a perished strap ends the watch.

Water resistance of at least 50m so hand-washing and rain are not a concern. Many fashion watches are 30m, which is less than it sounds.

1. Best value

Casio LTP-series

Correctly sized, properly made, and almost free.

Casio LTP-series - Vintage Ladies Bulova Wristwatch, 23 Jewel 5 BD Mechanical Wind Up Movement, 10K RGP Case With Diamonds
  • Quartz
  • Compact case
  • Steel on several references
  • Multi-year battery

Casio's LTP analog range is the quiet answer to this category. The cases are sized correctly for smaller wrists, the quartz movements keep perfect time, and the price is low enough that the watch is genuinely disposable if something happens to it.

Several references use steel rather than plated cases, which is the specification worth seeking out.

There is no story and no branding to pay for. It is a well-made small watch at a price that makes everything else in this category work harder.

What you give up

Mineral crystal and basic case finishing. The lower-cost references use plated cases that will wear - check the specific model.

2. Best overall

Seiko Essentials (compact)

Seiko build quality in a properly small case.

Seiko Essentials (compact) - Vintage Ladies Bulova Wristwatch, 23 Jewel 5 BD Mechanical Wind Up Movement, 10K RGP Case With Diamonds
  • Quartz
  • ~28-30mm
  • Stainless steel
  • 50m water resistance

Seiko's compact Essentials quartz models are the best-made watches in this category under $100. Solid stainless steel construction, a bracelet with real links rather than folded sheet, and the finishing standard Seiko applies across its range.

50m water resistance means hand-washing, rain and a dropped-in-the-sink moment are all non-events.

If you want one watch that will look the same in five years as it does today, this is the pick.

What you give up

Hardlex rather than sapphire crystal, and the conservative styling will not appeal if you want something decorative.

3. Best legibility

Timex Easy Reader (small)

The clearest dial here, by a long way.

Timex Easy Reader (small) - Vintage Ladies Bulova Wristwatch, 23 Jewel 5 BD Mechanical Wind Up Movement, 10K RGP Case With Diamonds
  • Quartz
  • Indiglo
  • Large numerals
  • Leather or expansion strap

The Easy Reader does exactly what its name says: large, high-contrast numerals on a plain dial. For anybody who finds small decorative dials hard to read - which is most people, most of the time - it is the most practical watch in this category.

Indiglo backlighting illuminates the whole dial at the press of the crown, which is more useful at night than painted lume.

It is available in genuinely small case sizes, which is rarer than it should be.

What you give up

Acrylic crystal that scratches easily, and 30m water resistance means splashes only.

4. Best styling for the money

Casio Vintage (steel)

A design that looks far more expensive than it is.

Casio Vintage (steel) - Vintage Ladies Bulova Wristwatch, 23 Jewel 5 BD Mechanical Wind Up Movement, 10K RGP Case With Diamonds
  • Digital
  • Steel bracelet
  • Very slim
  • Long battery life

The Casio Vintage range - small, slim, digital, on a steel mesh or link bracelet - has had an unlikely second life because it looks like a piece of jewelry and costs almost nothing.

It is genuinely slim, which matters under a sleeve, and the battery runs for years.

Gold-tone references are plated and will wear; the plain steel versions last considerably longer.

What you give up

Gold-tone finishes are plated and wear through at the clasp and edges. Water resistance is splash-only on most references.

5. Best mechanical option

Orient compact automatic

A genuine automatic movement in a small case.

Orient compact automatic - Vintage Ladies Bulova Wristwatch, 23 Jewel 5 BD Mechanical Wind Up Movement, 10K RGP Case With Diamonds
  • Orient automatic
  • Compact case
  • Exhibition back on some
  • Leather or bracelet

Mechanical watches in small sizes are unusually hard to find, because the market assumes a smaller watch means a quartz fashion piece. Orient's compact automatics are one of the few affordable exceptions.

You get a sweeping second hand, a movement Orient makes itself, and in some references a display caseback - the full mechanical experience in a case that actually fits.

It sits at the top of this tier and is worth waiting for a good price on.

What you give up

Usually at or above the $100 ceiling, and automatic accuracy at this price runs to tens of seconds a day rather than quartz precision.

What to avoid at this price

Plated gold-tone cases on a daily-wear watch. The plating wears through at the clasp and the case edges within a year or two of regular wear, and it cannot be restored. If you want a gold look for daily wear, solid steel with a PVD coating lasts considerably longer.

Proprietary strap attachments. If the strap cannot be replaced with a standard one, the watch's life is the strap's life.

30m water resistance on a watch you will wear constantly. It means splashes. Hand-washing repeatedly with a 30m watch is how water gets in.

Fashion-brand markup. Paying $140 for a $30 movement in a plated case is a choice, not a mistake - just make it knowingly.

When to spend more

Around $200, sapphire crystal and solid bracelets become standard, and the step is the same one described in men's watches under $200 - most of those models come in smaller case sizes too, and the size designation matters more than the marketing category.

Worth saying plainly: watches are not gendered by anything other than case size and styling convention. If a 36mm watch sold as a men's model is the one you like, it is the right watch.

How we picked

Every pick on this page is a real, currently-sold product that we could find at or under $100 at the time of the last update. Rank order is set before any link is attached.

We are research-led, not lab-led. We do not run a test lab and we do not claim to have personally used every product on this site. Common questions

+What size watch should I buy?

26-34mm suits most wrists in this style, but measure lug-to-lug rather than case diameter - a small dial with long lugs still overhangs. The right size is the one that sits flat without the lugs extending past the edge of your wrist.

+Are fashion-brand watches worth the money?

They are generally a generic quartz movement in a plated case with a designer name on the dial. If you love the design, that is a fair reason to buy. If you want the best-made watch for the money, a watch brand at the same price is measurably better built.

+Is a gold-tone watch a bad idea on a budget?

For occasional wear it is fine. For daily wear, plating wears through at the clasp and case edges within a year or two and cannot be repaired. Solid steel with a PVD coating is considerably more durable if the look matters.

+Should I buy quartz or automatic?

Quartz for accuracy, slimness and zero maintenance - and in smaller cases it is also much easier to find. Automatic if you want a mechanical movement and will accept tens of seconds of drift a day. Both are reasonable at this price.

+Can I wear a men's watch?

Yes - the categories are a marketing convention based on case size and styling, nothing more. If a 36mm watch sold as a men's model fits and you like it, that is the right watch, and it usually comes with better specifications at the same price.
