Best Doorbell Camera Under $100 (October 2026)

The hardware is cheap. The subscription is where the money is, and it is the only part of this decision that is hard to reverse.

The short answer

The eufy Video Doorbell C210 is the best doorbell camera under $100 for most people, because it records to local storage with no monthly fee. If you want the cheapest possible entry, the Blink Video Doorbell runs two years on AA batteries. Decide on **subscription or local storage** first - the camera matters far less.

Disclosure: we earn commission on qualifying purchases made through the links below, at no extra cost to you. It never changes the order of our picks - here is how that works.

Work out the subscription before you look at the camera

A video doorbell is one of the few cheap gadgets with a recurring cost attached, and the recurring cost usually exceeds the hardware within a year. There are two models, and they are genuinely different products.

Cloud-first. Ring, Blink, Arlo and most of the big names store clips on their servers. Without a plan, these doorbells generally still ring, still give you a live view and still send a motion alert - but they do not keep the recording. If you want to look at what happened while you were out, you need the subscription. It is typically a few dollars a month per camera.

Local-first. eufy and a handful of others record onto storage in the doorbell or in a base station. No monthly fee, no clip retention limit, and the footage does not leave your house. The hardware costs slightly more up front and you are responsible for the storage.

Over three years the gap is substantial, and switching ecosystems later means buying new hardware. This is the decision to make first.

  • No subscription wanted? Buy local storage - eufy is the main option at this price.
  • Already in an ecosystem? Matching it is worth more than a spec advantage.
  • Check what a plan actually unlocks - person detection and rich notifications are often paywalled.

Wired or battery, and how to tell which you can have

Go and look at your existing doorbell button. If there are two small wires behind it, you have a transformer in the house and a wired doorbell is an option. If the button is a sealed plastic unit with a battery in it, or there is no button at all, you need a battery model.

Wired doorbells never need charging, usually have a faster response because they are not asleep between events, and often support continuous or pre-roll recording. The catch is that a lot of older transformers are 10V and many video doorbells want 16-24V, so an old chime may buzz or the doorbell may report low power. Replacing a transformer is an electrician's job, not a difficult one.

Battery doorbells install in minutes with a drill and a level, which is why most people buy them. The trade is recharging - anything from a few weeks to a couple of years depending on the model and how busy your street is - and a slight delay waking up, which is why some clips start with the visitor already at the door.

1. Best overall - no subscription

eufy Video Doorbell C210

1080p, local recording, no monthly fee, and months between charges.

eufy Video Doorbell C210 - Video doorbell mounted beside a front door
  • 1080p
  • Local storage, no subscription
  • Up to ~120 days battery
  • Two-way audio

This is the pick because of what it does not cost. Recording is stored locally, so there is no plan to buy and no clip that expires before you get round to looking at it, and the footage stays in your house rather than on somebody else's server.

The camera itself is straightforward 1080p with a tall aspect ratio, which is the right shape for a doorbell - you want to see a parcel on the step, not a wide panorama of the street.

Battery life is the other standout. A quiet front door goes months between charges, which is the difference between a doorbell you maintain and one you resent.

What you give up

1080p rather than 2K, so faces at the end of a long path are soft. eufy's app is less polished than Ring's, and integration with other smart-home systems is patchier.

2. Best for package watching

eufy Video Doorbell E340

Two cameras - one at the visitor, one pointed down at the doorstep.

eufy Video Doorbell E340 - Video doorbell mounted beside a front door
  • Dual camera
  • 8GB built-in storage
  • No subscription
  • Wired or battery

The dual-camera arrangement solves the single most common complaint about video doorbells: a camera aimed at head height cannot see a parcel left against the door. The second lens points straight down and does exactly that.

It also carries 8GB of storage on board with no subscription, and runs either on battery or on existing doorbell wiring, so it suits both installation types.

If deliveries are the reason you want a doorbell camera at all, this is the one that actually addresses it.

What you give up

It sits right at this page's price ceiling, so it is the most expensive option here. The dual camera uses more power, so battery mode needs charging more often than the C210.

4. Best app and ecosystem

Ring Battery Doorbell

The most polished software in the category, if you accept the subscription.

Ring Battery Doorbell - Video doorbell mounted beside a front door
  • 1080p+
  • Removable battery pack
  • Quick Replies
  • Large accessory ecosystem

Ring's advantage has never been the camera, it is everything around it: the fastest and most reliable notifications in the category, a genuinely good app, and an ecosystem of chimes, cameras and alarm hardware that all work together.

The removable battery pack is a well-judged design - you swap it rather than taking the doorbell off the wall, and a spare pack means no downtime at all.

If other people in the household will use this, Ring's app is the one they will find easiest.

What you give up

Without a subscription it will not store recordings, which is most of the point. That monthly cost outruns the hardware price within a year or two.

Mounting it so it sees something useful

Three installation details decide whether the footage is worth having.

Height. About four feet from the ground. Standard doorbell height - around 48 inches - frames a visitor's face; mounting at head height looks up people's noses and misses anything on the step.

Angle. If the door is set back in a porch or the path approaches from the side, a wedge mount is needed. Most doorbells ship with one or sell one cheaply, and it is the difference between seeing a face and seeing an ear.

What is behind the visitor. A doorbell aimed straight at a bright street or a white wall will backlight every face into a silhouette, especially in the morning or evening. If you can angle it so the background is darker, do.

Also check your field of view against your property line. A doorbell that records a neighbor's front room is a problem you do not want, and most apps let you mask out zones. Set those up on day one.

Where a doorbell camera stops and a security camera starts

A doorbell camera watches one spot: the space immediately in front of your door. It is the highest-value single camera most homes can install, because that is where deliveries land and where visitors stand, but it is one narrow view.

If the concern is the driveway, a side gate, a garden or a garage, a doorbell will not cover it and no amount of field-of-view marketing changes that. A standalone camera placed where the problem is will do more - see best security camera under $100 and what a cheap security camera really costs.

The other thing a doorbell does not do is deter anyone who is not at your door. Visible cameras help at the entrance; they do not cover the rest of the property.

Common questions

+Do video doorbells work without a subscription?

They all ring, show a live view and send motion alerts without one. What a subscription buys is stored recordings, and on some brands person or package detection too. If you want footage you can review later without paying monthly, buy a doorbell with local storage - eufy is the main option under $100.

+Do I need existing doorbell wiring?

No - battery models install anywhere with a drill. Wiring is better if you have it: no charging, faster wake-up and often pre-roll recording. Check behind your current button for two low-voltage wires, and check the transformer voltage, because older 10V transformers can be too weak for a video doorbell.

+How long do doorbell camera batteries last?

Anything from three weeks to two years, driven almost entirely by how much motion the camera sees. A doorbell facing a busy pavement triggers constantly and drains fast; one facing a quiet driveway lasts months. Narrowing the motion zone is the most effective way to extend it.

+Is 1080p enough for a doorbell camera?

For identifying someone standing at your door, yes - they are three feet away. Higher resolution helps when the path is long or you want to read a license plate at the curb, which is really a security camera's job rather than a doorbell's.

+Will a video doorbell work with my existing chime?

Usually, if you wire it, though some combinations need a supplied power kit fitted at the chime. Battery models generally do not ring a mechanical chime at all and instead use your phone or a plug-in chime, which is sold separately by most brands.
